About Bhavani.
Bhavani is a powerhouse storyteller, producer, and creative force whose career seamlessly blends bold originality with commercial appeal. With a dynamic background spanning development, production, literary management, and organizational leadership, she stands at the helm of Bhavani Entertainment—a boundary-pushing company championing genre-defining television and film while also developing the next generation of groundbreaking storytellers.
Her career began at the intersection of traditional and digital media, where she built a reputation for audience-first innovation. At ITV—the first South Asian channel in the U.S.—she led content acquisitions and programming strategy, driving a 52% viewership surge across key demos, especially women 18–49. At ABC’s SOAPnet, she launched SOAPNETIC, the first broadband network for niche soap opera fans, earning industry recognition as an early adopter of multiplatform storytelling. At Sezmi, she shaped content strategy and programming for a new generation of TV audiences.
Bhavani’s deep 360-degree experience—from digital and network strategy to producing sizzle reels and shorts with top-tier talent—positions her uniquely to lead today’s cross-platform television landscape. She’s developed, financed, and produced a wide range of scripted and unscripted content, working with creative talent from major series like Breaking Bad, Leverage, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Under the Bhavani Entertainment banner, she’s focused on rich, character-driven dramas, bold dramedies, and genre projects that reflect underrepresented voices while captivating global audiences.
Simultaneously, she has built a robust literary management arm, developing and representing global original voices with a keen focus on storytellers. Her management philosophy is rooted in long-term career-building, creative collaboration, and IP development—offering clients a rare blend of mentorship and marketplace strategy.
A visionary organizer and changemaker, Bhavani is the founder of South Asian Women in Entertainment (SAWIE)—the first and only industry organization dedicated to empowering South Asian women in Hollywood. Under her leadership, SAWIE has hosted more than 60 events since 2017, creating a vital network of mentorship, advocacy, and opportunity. She is also the co-founder of South Asians in Entertainment and South Asians in Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror, initiatives expanding South Asian representation across all genres and platforms.
Her leadership extended to the Producers Guild of America, where she served as Co-Chair of Mentorship. There, she created Scripted TV Basecamp, a pioneering 12-week program that successfully guides non-scripted producers through the world of scripted development—a testament to her passion for education, community, and inclusive industry growth.
Originally from New York City and a graduate of St. John’s University, where she was the first female president of the Indian Cultural Association, Bhavani continues to fuse cultural specificity with universal storytelling. As a founder, mentor, and creative visionary, she is redefining what it means to be a producer in the 21st century—building an entertainment empire rooted in purpose, power, and heart.
